What's New?

Media Darlings...

Metro Times did a nice little piece this week on the Sleeper/Rasmussen merger. We'll be on Lou Dobbs next week.

Say hi to the new guy...

After almost six whole months of not really searching at all for a new bass player, we couldn't be happier to announce that Gary Rasmussen is an official member of Porchsleeper. Gary is a local legend around these parts having been a founding member of Grande Ballroom regulars The Up as well as the legendary Sonic's Rendezvous Band. Gary has also punched the clock with the likes of Iggy, Patti Smith and most recently, Alvin Youngblood Heart. We are honored and privileged to have Gary holding down the Sleeper low end.

To kick off Gary's tenure in the band we will be opening for Brother Wayne Kramer at the Magic Stick on June 29th! Mark your calendars now...

Blowout Combover...

It's Blowout time again...this year we're going to be playing Friday, March 3rd at the Painted Lady with Mod Orange, Paradise and Ben Cyllus. Todd Holmes from Chris Richards + The Subtractions will be pinch hitting for us on lead bass.

Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes...

Happy New Year Kids! We hope that you've managed to make it through the holidays without any unjust incarceration. '05 wasn't such a bad year for the Sleeper; we put out another record, we played some shows and we made some friends.

'06 will bring substantial changes to the Sleeper organization. It's with heavy hearts and empty glasses that we announce that our brother, friend and bass player, Zac Johnson has turned in his resignation to the Sleeper front office. Apparently, driving three drunk idiots all over tarnation and unloading the van at four o' clock in the morning every other weekend doesn't hold the luster that it once did. However, before Zac is relieved of his duties we will send him off with a big ol' see ya later party at the Elbow Room in Ypsi on Saturday, January 14th. Please join us in one last Zactastic rock explosion and help us say goodbye to the greatest bass player ever.

Last Orders Please...

This week the Metro Times has confirmed what everybody here has known for years: the more you drink, the better we sound. We'd like to thank the folks at Pabst and Jameson's, and every bartender in the metro Detroit area for all their help...oh, and Jesus, always have to thank Him too.

Miles of Sleeper...

If you haven't already snatched one up yet, you can now order the new record on the innernets through our old pals at Miles of Music. Do your part as a fiscally responsible citizen in aiding in our country's current 'economic recovery'. Unless of course you hate freedom.

It's Official...

We're dorks. We have a Myspace page. Yeah, We dunno why either. You can listen to some songs, see where we're playing and read our bio, just like on our website, only here you can be our 'friend' too. Circle one, 'yes' or 'no'.

Thank you...DEEtroit!!

Seriously, a sincere thank you to everyone who braved the eazy-bake oven that is the Lager House in July to help us celebrate our new record. Big thanks to Rob, who provided pregame entertainment even though he had another gig that night. Super big thanks to Jeremy 'effin' Wheeler who filled in for Rob after he had to split. And words can't describe our gratitude to the Prime Ministers for opening the show even though every time we book a show with them their drummer mortally wounds himself. It was a fantastic evening...thanks!

Hey, remember us....?

Look at us with a fancy new website just like a "real" band! We can't gurantee that it will be updated any more than the last one was but we'll do our best. Anyhow, all the fancy is on account'a we've got a brand spanking new record album coming out on July 19th. Crazy huh? It's got a bunch of the songs that we've been playing in our sets for the past few months and a few new gems that are just waiting to be discovered. We recorded it with Jim Roll and his dog Bernie at their Backseat Stuidos in Ypsi. Then our old pal Dave Feeny mixed it and threw some of his pedal steel on it, and just like that we had another record all done.

And to celebrate the occasion we're going to put on a bit of a shindig at the Lager House in Detroit on Saturday, July 16. Joining us will be our friends the Prime Ministers, DJ Theaks (of Dorkwave infamy) as well as a slew of special guest spinners tag teaming on the turntables when the amps are on 'standby'. It sure would be great to see the Lager packed full of all of our drunk friends so mark your calendar and hopefully we'll see you in corktown!

It's All Over But The Shouting...

"Porchsleeper was a beer shower of impassioned rock" Metro Times' Johnny Loftus on our contribution to the MCR @ MC2 showcase. Thank you Johnny and yes, your check is in the mail. You can read Mr. Loftus' entire MC2 report here.

Gary over at Motor City Rocks observed that, "The beer and the whiskey dissapeared on stage as quickly as the guitar solos and licks filled up the room". You can read Gary's harrowing account of the evening here.

Sounds like we won't be getting those AA chips after all.

Glad and Sorry...

Ok, we're just going to start off right off the bat by apologizing to anyone who may seen our Motor City Music Conference 'performance' at Jacoby's on Friday for anything that we may have said or done that was completely inappropriate. We're just beginning to remember bits and pieces now, and from what other info we've been able to gather from other eyewitnesses, We've concluded that it may have been one of the coolest shows we've ever been a part of. Thanks so much to MCR, Stirling, Sue, GLMS, Loretta, Molly Jean, Tenley, and all the drunks that came out to contribute to our debauchery. For those of you that missed the party, Uncle Grambo and DataWhat both have eyewitness accounts of the evening as well as various other MC2 happenings.

This Just in...

We have been given a last minute assignment to open for The Paybacks and the Riots next Friday, April 1st at The Blind Pig. If you live in Washtenaw County, there's really no good excuse for missing this show. Rarely does rock of this caliber come through our neck of the woods. And for those of you in Wayne County, we haven't forgotten about you. We'll be at Jacoby's the very next night on Saturday with The Prime Ministers and Steve's other band, the Fluoride Program. Oh, and it's Steve's birthday on Saturday too! As the great scholar Sammy Hagar once said, It's gonna be a rock 'n roll weekend.

All Blow'd Out...

Uh, what the hell happened last weekend? Thank you Anthony, for putting us on first, because I can't really remember much of anything after our last song. Thanks to all you drunkasses who came out early on Friday night and if anybody finds my self-respect, last seen headed south on Joseph Compau, please email me.

Singles 45 and under

Ok, so the sessions with Jim turned out pretty good. So good in fact, that we decided it'd be ok if other people heard them too. So we gave a couple songs to the guys at Radio Fever and they premiered "Garage" on their show on Saturday. If, by chance, your electricity was out and you get to hear it, you can download both Garage and 1972 for your listening pleasure.

I just had a Hamtramck Blowout...in my pants!
The super hip kids at Motor City Rocks have given their blessing for you to come see our Blowout set at the Belmont on Friday. In addition, they asked me and Zac, as well as many of your other favorite Blowout participants to give our recommendations for this weekend's festivities. So we did. Thanks guys!.

Hello friends!

We're going over to our friend Jimmer's studio this weekend with every intention of recording demos for the new record (pre-production is what I hear they call it in the biz). 'Course Zac has the scurvy so bad we dang near lost him at practice the other day and nobody's heard from him since. I'm sure he's fine. In any case, the idea is to use these demos as the bait that will lure in some unsuspecting benefactor who will pay for the actual record. If you have a dim-witted, yet inexplicably wealthy brother-in-law that you think would be a prime candidate for this pyrimid scheme, let us know.

As if that isn't exciting enough, we're packing up the van and pointing it twards poletown again for the annual Metrotimes' Hamtramck Blowout . We'll be blowing out this year at The Belmont on Friday, March 4th. Once again the folks in the Blowout front office had the wisdom and the foresight to put us on at 9:00p so as to reduce the chances of us draining every bottle of Belvedere in town before we even open our guitar cases. We'll see. Wristbands for the Blowout are $20 at the venues or you can pick them up for $10 at 'particpating retailers' begining 2/21. It's up to you. You can get all the pesky details at www.metrotimes.com/blowout.

Happy New Beer!

Boy, did '04 suck or what? Tsunamis, Paris Hilton, Karl Rove....did anything good happen last year? Oh yeah, we put out a record and it made Miles Of Music's list of their 50 best sellers of '04 coming in at #50 with a bullet. Thanks to everybody who's shelled out their hard earned cash for our little record, came out to see us or sent us pictures of Scarlet Johanson drinking coffee.

This year we're gonna try our hardest to put another record out. We've been playing the new songs live for the past few months and we're anxious to get them into the studio. In the meantime, we'll be doing a few shows here and there. The first of which will be at Small's on 1/27. Check out the Shows page from time to time, because like a communicable disease, you never know where or when we're going to show up next.
